Contiguous vs. Continuous vs. Consecutive : 都有連續的意思，到底有何差別？

Contiguous，Continuous和Consecutive是三個和連續有關的相似英文單字，但它們具有不同的含義。
Contiguous的意思是“相鄰的、毗鄰或相接觸的，如這兩個州相毗鄰；Continuous的意思是“沒有中斷或斷裂的”，如雨連續下了三天；而Consecutive的意思是“依序跟隨沒有間隔的”，如她連續三年贏得了冠軍。

 Contiguous   

Contiguous指的是彼此相接觸、毗鄰或相接觸的事物，可以是物理上的或是關係或位置上的，和adjacent的意義相同。例如， 

◉ The United States is made up of 48 contiguous states.

美國由48個相鄰的州組成。

◉ The two buildings were contiguous, sharing a common wall.

這兩座建築物是相鄰的，相隔一面牆。

◉ The national park consists of contiguous forests and lakes.

國家公園由相鄰的森林和湖泊組成。

 Continuous 

Continuous指的是時間、順序或範圍上沒有中斷或斷裂的事物。例如，

◉ The rain fell continuously for three days.

雨連續下了三天。

◉ She has been studying continuously for six hours.

她已經連續學習了六個小時。

◉ The company strives for continuous improvement in its products.

公司致力於產品的持續改進。

 Consecutive 

Consecutive指的是沒有中斷或間隔地依序跟隨的事物，通常用於描述一系列連續的值，這些值彼此之間沒有間隔。例如，連續的數字是按順序的整數，沒有任何跳過的數字。

例如，

◉ She won the championship for three consecutive years.
她已經連續三年贏得了冠軍

◉The team has lost five consecutive games this season.
該隊本季度已經連續輸了五場比賽。

◉I worked late for four consecutive nights last week.
上週我已經連續工作了四個晚上。

◉Next week, we have a consecutive 3-day national holiday.
下週我們有連續三天的國定假期

在計算機中，contiguous通常用於指內存分配（memory allocation）。Contiguous memory allocation（連續內存）是一塊內存，其中所有位元組都一個接一個，沒有任何間隙或未使用的空間。這對於優化內存訪問和提高性能非常重要。For example, an array of integers that is stored in contiguous memory can be accessed much more efficiently than an array that is not contiguous.
